Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is the first woman to be elected vice president, and she is also the highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and she was a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010 she was elected Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator , and campaigned for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons as well as progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials during Senate hearings has garnered the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
